CONTRABBANDU
SPIRIT OF SARDINIA
Contrabbandu
In Sardinia, smuggling hasn't always been a harsh word. For our grandparents, it carried the scent of freshly distilled pomace and the warmth of a handshake. It was a time when filu ‘e ferru, the Sardinian grappa, was born at night in courtyards, under the complicit silence of families. The law demanded taxes and permits, but farmers guarded their distillate like a treasure: they buried it underground, leaving only a thin iron wire visible — a secret sign to find it again.
A symbol of ingenuity, pride, and freedom.
Today, with Contrabbandu, we pay tribute to that history. No longer hidden, but proudly offered: the authentic taste of a tradition that defies time. Every sip is a toast to the true Sardinia — one that knows how to endure, create, and share.

The Philosophy
Tradition and Freedom
Contrabbandu is more than a liqueur: it’s a story of freedom, resilience, and creativity. We believe in the strength of our roots, in respecting the land, and in craftsmanship as a value worth preserving. Every bottle is a tribute to those who have defended their identity, keeping alive a heritage of authentic flavors.
Sustainability and Quality
We carefully select local raw ingredients and work with sustainable methods to offer a product that respects the environment and celebrates the Sardinian territory.

Contrabbandu Today: A Tribute to Tradition
With the Contrabbandu brand, we celebrate a story of freedom, ingenuity, and untamed spirit. No longer hidden in the shadows, filu ’e ferru becomes a mark of pride and belonging, and our spirits tell a tradition that defies time. Each bottle is a toast to the true Sardinia—one that knows how to resist, create, and share—carrying with it the symbols and stories of a proud and free people.

Filu ’e Ferru: The Hidden Secret
To protect their treasure, Sardinian distillers buried the demijohns underground, leaving only a thin iron wire protruding—the filu ’e ferru. That hidden sign represented the ingenuity and determination of a people capable of defending their freedom. It was the thread that held together community, history, and identity, telling stories of sacrifice, labor, and solidarity.
The Iron Wire, Freedom, and the Symbols of a People
In Sardinia, the word contrabbandu has never been just a legal term or a crime to be concealed. For our grandparents, it was the symbol of ancient knowledge, of daily resistance shaped by courage and ingenuity. In Sardinian courtyards, during silent nights, filu ’e ferru was distilled—the grappa that brought warmth to families and comfort to spirits.
